Flesh

I love Flesh (in more ways than one), Andy Warhol's Flesh, it brings this subculture under which we are all eventually exposed to: prostitution, drugs and drags. My favorite character, besides hunky Joe Dallesandro is Candy Darling, if I would've wanted to be a drag in this life, it would've been Candy Darling, she managed to conceal whatever masculinity she had left in a perspicacious facade and adorable matron figure. She was great improvising and her creased glamour was only equivalent to that of a colorful and blonde New York Mona Lisa. This is a scene from Flesh, were she tags along with Jackie Curtis to create a comical sketch of culture and gossipy starved whores for hire. Also pay special attention to the story given by one of the characters and how almost her story is credible...at minute 6:52, you'll be hearing either a script based story....or an anectdote, you decide:

Candy Darling's life ended because of cancer (she is portrayed in Antony and the Johnson's cover for "I am a Bird") and needless to say, she became one of Warhol's legendary divas and a 70's independent transvestite actress. It takes balls to actually be willing to lose them, not that I would ever, ever want to (I've seen it and girl's lives are quite hard, besides there's nothing better than a rock 'em sock 'em pair of balls hitting hard against skin). "Hope there's someone" by Antony and the Johnson's seems to give a tribute of this beautiful and outspoken (for her times) woman. If I ever die, I demand this song to be played for me...

I end this entry by complying with her: "I am a star because I have always felt so alienated and I project this feeling to others." -Olman, carrying on a Darling Legacy...

  1. mmm it's a hard thing to call. An anecdote, or a script. At first I thought it was a a script due to the lack of emotion when she's giving the details, but then after analyzing what this person's life could of been after that, it makes perfect sense that she "shut off" the feelings.
